Founder

Biography of Jerry Bounds, founder of Words for the World

Jerry Bounds is a Portland, Oregon accountant who has specialized in non-profit organizations for the past 30 years. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Portland State University in 1969 and received his MBA from the University of Illinois in 1970. 

He first visited the Fiji Islands in 1980 and has returned more than 25 times. 

While visiting the elementary school on Waya Island in 1990, he discovered the tremendous need for books. With his love for the Fijian people and his profound interest in education of children, he came up with the idea of helping the much neglected outer islands of Fiji.
